How many of you are a foodie?? Do you love food? Have you ever tried North East Foods?? Specially the ones from Nagaland.? If you haven't then you should. .. And I must tell you that you won't regret.

If you are a fish lover then you should definitely try this recipe.

Fish with fermented bamboo shoot is one of the best delicacy of Nagaland. Nagaland is known for minimalistic cooking and the foods cooked are mostly oil free yet mouth watering and extremely nutritious. Here, people mostly consume boiled vegetables as it is known to keep the skin healthy and also improves the digestive system.

This dish is cooked in every house in Nagaland and it requires less cooking time and it is very easy to cook as well. It is cooked with all the easily available ingredients like onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, Green Chilies, Naga king chili, fermented bamboo shoots and the main ingredient that is the fish. Any species of fish can be used for cooking but in my recipe I have used Rohu. Rohu fish is considered to be delicious when boiled with seasonal vegetables so I prefer this fish,you can use any fish as per your like.

Guys you should definitely try this recipe especially those whole prefer non- oily and nutritious food.

  • Fish: 500 grams
  • Green chilies: 6-7
  • King Chili: 1/2
  • Garlic: 8-10 cloves
  • Ginger: 2 inches roughly chopped
  • Tomatoes: coarsely diced
  • Shredded Bamboo shoots
  • Salt: As per taste
  • Water as required

Method:
  • Clean the fish and keep it aside in a clean plate. 
  • Chop down the onion,tomatoes, green chili and king chili and crush the ginger and garlic with the help of a mortar and pistil.
  • Take a pot and add water. Bring the water to boil and add the chopped onion, tomatoes, chilies,and the shredded bamboo shoots. Add the crushed ginger and garlic paste and cook for few minutes, As the flavors starts to develop and blend with each other you will get a delicious exotic smell.
  • Then you can add the fish and the shredded bamboo shoots.
  • Cover the pot with a lid a allow the fish to cook. Make sure you do not stir the dish till its completely cooked to retain the flavor of the dish.
  • Now the dish is ready, you can serve it with hot steamed rice.
