Hi guys, its been a long time since I haven't wrote due to my busy schedule. I hope you are doing well and staying safe amidst this tough situation. Its a hard time for all of us fighting this dreadful Corona Virus(COVID-19). We have learned so much about the virus by now and what are the precautions we should be taking to prevent and overcome this disease. Let me explain you in brief about this virus and what it actually does to your body and what are the things that you can do to prevent it. What is COVID 19  and what it does to the body?? COVID-19 i s an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. It  is more or less like the common flu or common cold which causes respiratory illness like pneumonia. We see its symptoms after 14 days which makes it easier for transmission if we are not careful. It spreads through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. There is no specific treatment or vacc

Pork With Bamboo Shoots

Pork is the most commonly cooked meat in North-East, India particularly in the Nagaland State. Being a tender meat, pork can be cooked using various cooking methods - frying, boiling, steaming, barbecuing etc. Despite of various cooking techniques used, pork retains its natural tenderness and flavor. Many states in India have their own recipe of cooking this supple meat and I must tell you that they are just as delicious as they look.



 In Nagaland, pork is usually cooked with some seasonal vegetables and spices making it an exotic traditional dish. The meat is cut into large chunks and mixed with spices and allowed to cook slowly. The meat when cooked is super delicious when served with steamed rice.
I will share a simple recipe of Pork cooked with bamboo shoots. This is a must try recipe of Nagaland. 


Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: Approx 60 minutes

Ingredients Required:

  • Pork
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Dry Chilies
  • Fermented Bamboo Shoots
  • Water
  • Salt to taste

Method:
  1. Clean the meat thoroughly with water. 
  2. Heat a pot and add the meat with a good amount of salt and allow it to cook for sometime.
  3. Now add crushed ginger and garlic along with dried red chili paste, mix well and cover it with a lid.
  4. After few minutes open the lid and add the shredded bamboo shoots. Now add water and cover the lid again and leave it to cook well till the water is completely dried.
  5. Remove the lid and give a good shakes to the meat with a wooden spoon.
  6. The dish is now ready to serve.
This dish is best served with  steamed rice which is the staple food of Nagaland.
